Description

A Sligo Councillor and close friend of the late Tom Niland says there is a sense of relief in the community after the three men who assaulted the retired farm labourer in his own home, were sentenced to a combined 43 years in prison.

Francis Harman John Clarke and John Irving, attacked Mr Niland at his home at Doonflynn, Skreen, on January 18th 2022.

They were given prison sentences of 14 and 15 years in the Central Criminal Court for the manslaughter of Tom Niland yesterday.

Sligo Councillor Michael Clarke says resources the Gardai put into securing the convictions sends out a clear message that such attacks will not be tolerated in the North West.
